*Residential* Lighting Rebates for Homegrowers from Xcel Energy

If you’re wondering if you read that right, yes, yes you did! Xcel Energy is now offering home-growers lighting rebates. This comes as a huge surprise as these have traditionally only been available to licensed, legal businesses. As someone that works in the commercial space, I would also like to call out and acknowledge that Xcel actually has a dedicated team for cannabis-related businesses which in my eyes shows immense respect. In combination with the rebates they make available, they legitimately go out of their way for this industry in ways that not many others do. Here’s some more info and caveats for the program and how to take advantage:

These are the major highlights and stipulations of the rebate:

• Xcel Energy MN Residential Electric customers
• Grow light used indoors with AC cooling
  • Greenhouse lighting, under/intra canopy do not qualify
• Rebate – $0.70/watt up to 60% project cost.
• Up to 8 fixtures per residence
• Invoice date 11/18/2024 and beyond
• Possible inspection through phone survey (lottery-based).
  • If inspected, customer will need to submit requested pictures of the following (online, no in-person inspections. They do not have time for that!):
    • Lights installed and operating
    • Plants under lights
    • AC Cooling
  • If the customer fails the inspection, they may be liable to payback the rebate
    • If the customer assigned the rebate to an alternate recipient and the customer fails the inspection, the customer will be the one that is liable for the rebate, not the alternate rebate recipient.  
• Payment timeline is usually 6-8 weeks after documents are received
